Yale Week in Mexico; or, Why size doesn’t matter

Bruce

So I spent part of last week in Mexico City participating in Yale Week in Mexico. Yale Week is a great program whereby various faculty from across the University — SOM, the Law School, School of Medicine, Yale College, etc. — as well as Yale administrators travel down to Mexico for lectures, meetings, and other activities (such as a community service project in Monterrey with Yale students and alumni and members of the Tec de Monterrey community). I went down to take part in an exchange with Tec de Monterrey, attend a lecture by SOM finance professor Geert Rouwenhorst, and have lunch with some of our alumni and admitted students.

Spring Break = Integrated Curriculum????

Diana

Spring break officially began today with our last take home finals due yesterday evening, yet today I found myself reliving highlights from this past semester and realizing just how much the past few months have changed the way I think…

Round 2 decisions

Bruce

Now that our second application round is roughly two-thirds over, it seems like a good time to take stock with where we are and what will happen for the rest of the round.

SOM Outreach

Rebecca

organizing!

There’s this cool club here called SOM Outreach which sets groups of 4 students up with pro-bono consulting projects with local nonprofits.  It’s a lot of work, but if you are excited about the problems you are tackling you will be really motivated.  I am working with 3 awesome members of the class of 2010 to address men’s sexual health issues in connecticut.  We are charged with figuring out a messaging system that could get young men taking better care of themselves!

Countdown to Bangkok!

Guillermo

As Spring 1 winds down and exams approach quicker than I would have imagined, I find myself getting excited about my next SOM-related jaunt around the world. Over Spring Break, the members of the Global Social Enterprise program at SOM are traveling to Thailand to do pro-bono consulting work for a number of NGOs in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The great thing about the program this year is that they opened it up to other graduate schools; my team for example is composed of myself, a second year SOM student, an MPH, and a student from the Masters in International and Development Economics program.

Where Have I Been?

Diana

I know this is a super late update from our international experience trips, but since we’ve been back things have been flying at us from all over.  We’ve built sailboats and operated a manufacturing facility for operations engine, we’ve discussed hiring incentives (or lack thereof) for investment banks and other various entities for Employee, we’ve met with executives from the former Enron for State & Society and we’ve learned about the innovation of Honest Tea from the one and only (you’ll understand when you’re here)…for Innovator.  Many of my classmates, myself included, are ecstatic about spring break in a couple weeks…not only because we’re all in dire need of a little R&R but also because it means that when we return our electives will be in full swing :)   Till then, I’ve got a couple photos from my time in Israel and Istanbul for you enjoyment (yes one is at Starbucks…I couldn’t resist)!
