a word on The Have
by JK '11
The admissions office ran a very successful open house today for a large number of prospective students who attended classes, joined us for a tour of SOM, lunch, and an evening cocktail. At lunch, one of the prospective students asked me what most surprised me about coming to SOM. For me, it is New Haven.

The Have has surpassed my expectations in just about every way. No, we’re not in Boston or New York, but we have delicious restaurants, amazing pizza, a nice mix of places for a vibrant nightlife, a great theater scene, and really nice neighborhoods to call home.
And if you need a bit more for the weekend, New York is a short train ride, Boston an easy drive, and Vermont (for a different type of more) an I-91 drive away. At the end of the day though, a place is only as strong as the people around you and I couldn’t have asked for a better group. So, The Have has been a surprise – a very pleasant surprise.

JK,
I’ll be visiting campus to interview soon. If my night in New Haven begins with pizza at Modern and ends with a beer (possibly two) at the BruRoom, will I get a taste for the places SOM students congregate?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
You will certainly get a taste for life in New Haven. As with any city, there’s no guarantee that on a given night there will be a bunch of SOMers hanging around, but the pizza at Modern is great and Bar has a couple descent microbrews (and also good pizza).
